Day 4 Afternoon
Today was our first day out of the guest house. It was very nice to just get out and see some of Addis. There seem to be some very nice houses, packed tightly together and then shanties just down the street. I am very curious to see what it will be like when we go to the market for souvenirs. We went out to Acacia Village to see the new children’s center CWA is building. They said it is about a month out of being done, but it looked like there was a lot left to do. The structure is basically up but that was pretty much it. It was super muddy out there (it’s been storming almost every day) and we weren’t exactly prepared for that, but it was good to see it and we enjoyed talking to our driver who is the director of Acacia. Nate carried Levi in the Baby Bjorn carrier and Levi loved it and was his typical happy self the whole time we were out. (You can see in the picture, it was a little chilly (for Ethiopia) when we left, so we put on the sweater and the hat...ADRIANNE - Notice those shoes?!) The power has been out at some point almost every day, and has been out most of the day today. It really hasn’t been an issue for us except two nights ago when we were trying to give Levi a bath and put him to bed. He was uncharacteristically unhappy so it was quite the adventure trying to get him ready for bed.
He continues to improve in various ways. He has started trying to hold his bottle, which before he would just keep his hands down. He either will put his hand on top of ours or sometimes will grab our finger while he eats. We can also tell he is responding more to our comforting. When we stop his feedings to burp him, he will nuzzle our neck (he would just cry and arch back before) and during his “night time play time” he likes to rub our arms. Obviously, God continues to answer our prayers in the way he is developing. We still are extremely happy with the way things are going. So far, no real sickness but I do think I am catching Levi’s cold. I was a little stuffy last night and have a bit of a sore throat. But, overall, we really can’t complain about anything and are so thankful we haven’t had any digestive issues. We appreciate your prayers as always…I thank God every night for the prayers that we are receiving and know that He is hearing and answering. Nate and Shanna
